AIB has said that it hopes to implement a job-cutting plan from October that would reduce its workforce by 2,000.

A spokeswoman for the bank confirmed that this had been communicated to staff in a e-mail from AIB executive chairman David Hodgkinson last week.

AIB announced in April that it intended to cut 2,000 jobs.

The Irish Bank Officials' Association said it would not be cooperating with the plan until all aspects of it had been agreed.

IBOA general secretary Larry Broderick said the idea that AIB would start the plan in October was 'purely aspirational'.

Talks over the redundancy negotiations are due to take place at the Labour Relations Commission later this month.
