Online security company McAfee is to create 30 new jobs, following the announcement of a €6m investment in its European Operations Centre in Cork City.

The investment involves carrying out a research and development project focused on new security technologies.

'The ongoing success of McAfee in Ireland and the high quality of the workforce here led to the decision to locate this R&D investment in Cork,' said Paul Walsh, vice president of engineering, McAfee International.

'The investment will focus on cloud, anti-virus and encryption technologies.'

Recruitment for the positions has begun, though a company spokesperson could not confirm a specific timescale in which the positions would be filled.

Commenting on the announcement, Minister for Jobs, Enterprise and Innovation, Richard Bruton said, 'Today's announcement by this major global IT company is great news for Cork and a great vote of confidence in our enterprise policies.

'This €6m R&D project is exactly the type of investment we must continue to attract, and these high-end jobs working on cutting-edge Internet security technologies are exactly the types of jobs we must continue to create.'

The investment is supported by the Government with the aid of the IDA.
