The Irish Stock Exchange has reported increased share trading activity in the first three months of this year, though trading in Irish Government bonds slumped.
It said turnover in Irish companies and exchange traded funds (ETFs) rose by 2.9% from the previous three months to €10.4 billion. The average number of trades per day was also up 7.5% from the previous period.
The ISEQ index fell marginally over the three-month period, but the financial part of the index dropped by 37.6%.
The ISE said the value of trading in Irish Government bonds dropped by 65% from the last quarter of 2010 to €10.6 billion, reflecting Ireland's exit from the bond markets late last year.
