Chip maker Intel has cut forecast for revenue in the first three months of this year by $300m.

It said this was due to the costs associated with correcting a design flaw it discovered in one of its chips.

Intel said it had stopped shipments of the chip and had implemented a fix. It will begin delivering an updated version of the chip to customers in late February. The total cost to repair and replace the chip is expected to be around $700 million, it said.

Earlier this month, Intel projected revenue of $11.5 billion for the current quarter, as it reported a record net profit of $11.7 billion for last year.
