Official figures show that euro zone industrial production grew by 1% in August from July.
The EU's statistics agency Eurostat said this gave an annual increase of 7.9%.
Eurostat also said that seasonally adjusted figures showed 0.8% monthly growth for the full 27-nation EU, which also includes Britain and eastern industrial powerhouse Poland.
Production of durable consumer goods like fridges or TVs rose by 1.8% month-on-month.
Output rose in 18 of the 27 EU states that reported data, fell in three and remained stable in France. Greece logged the fastest growth at 5.6%.
