Requesting Archive Material- Private Use

Where resources permit we provide copies on request of programmes and news items transmitted by RTÉ Television and Radio. We also provide photographic images on request from RTÉ Stills Library collection.

We can supply copies of archive material when we can confirm that RTÉ own the copyright of the content.

This material is made available on the understanding that it is for private use only.

RTÉ Television Library Sales for Private Use

This notice does NOT apply to requests to RTÉ Radio Library Sales or RTÉ Stills Library.

RTÉ Television Libraries and Archives receive a large volume of requests on a daily basis. Limited resources mean that currently we are unable to deal with the majority of requests for RTÉ Television archive material for the purposes of private use. However, you may be able to find the content you require on the RTÉ.ie (see Search Page).

Private individuals requesting copies of RTÉ Television programmes or news, please note:

For reasons of copyright RTÉ is unable to supply the following content:

• Content which is not owned by RTÉ, e.g., feature films, international news
• RTÉ-produced programmes containing non-RTÉ content, e.g., Reeling in the Years
• Content in which RTÉ is part copyright owner, e.g., co-production programmes made with another broadcaster
• RTÉ-commissioned independent productions, e.g., Haughey documentary series
• Sports content, e.g., GAA and FAI games
• Drama, e.g., Fair City
• Music videos
• Celebrity appearances on RTÉ programmes , e.g., The Late Late Show, Tubridy Tonight
• Content available for sale through retail outlets or from RTÉ online shop at www.rte.ie/shop
• Content currently streamed on RTE.ie, e.g., recent news available at www.rte.ie/news/
• Content that has not yet been transferred from film to tape or digitally re-mastered.

Ordering Process- Private Use

To order archive material from RTÉ Libraries and Archives, please use the request form to contact RTÉ Library Sales team:

Your request will be confirmed automatically.

You will be contacted by email by a member of RTÉ Library Sales team in due course to let you know if the material is available for use under the terms and conditions for your specified use. You will also be supplied with details of the cost of ordering the material.

If you are happy with the terms and conditions and the cost specified, you may follow the link to the online order form and make an advance payment for the archive material.

You will receive the material within a specified period.

• Archive material is made available on the understanding that it is for private use only.
• You must agree to the Terms and Conditions for Private Use of archive material.
• Payment must be made in advance of supply of CDs, DVDs, audiocassettes or photographs containing archive material.
• Research services in excess of one hour will be charged in advance.
• RTÉ Libraries and Archives can only supply material where copyright is available.
