Shannon to take legal action against Ryanair

Ryanair court action - Airport claiming breach of contract

The Director of Shannon Airport, Martin Moroney, said this evening that the airport is taking legal action against Ryanair for breach of contract.

Speaking at a meeting of the Mid-west Regional Authority in Ennis, Mr Moroney said that Ryanair had 'failed miserably' to meet its passenger targets at the airport.

He claimed that Ryanair failed to meet its commitments over a five year agreement and left the airport short of traffic.

Ryanair had stated that one of the reasons it was cutting services at Shannon was because the airport had increased passenger charges. Today Mr Moroney said that Ryanair's decision had more to do with failing to meet targets than with increased charges.

He said that while Shannon is fighting for survival in a difficult economy, he assured that the airport was 'not in terminal decline'.

He said he was confident there was a future for the airport and that a number of airlines had expressed an interest in coming to the Co Clare airport.
