UNITE to vote over BoSI stance

Bank of Scotland (Ireland) - 'No proposals', says UNITE
Bank of Scotland (Ireland) - 'No proposals', says UNITE

The UNITE union is to ballot its 600 members in Bank of Scotland (Ireland) to seek a mandate for industrial action.

The union blamed the decision to ballot on what it called management's failure to provide any clarity on the establishment of a separate company to handle the winding down of the bank's operations in Ireland.

The bank announced the wind-down in August. At the time, it said there were would be 36 redundancies, with most of its 800 staff transferring to a new company which would manage the remaining loans.

UNITE said today that there had been no proposal or confirmation to staff on the working terms and conditions of employment that would be put in place in the new company. 'Nor has there been any proposal on the resolution of the pension deficit that currently exists,' the union added. The vote will take place on October 12.
