Up to 120 new insurance jobs have been announced today as Zurich Insurance says it is recruiting for one of the company's European centres in Dublin.

For almost two years now the Zurich Insurance Group has been engaged in an recruitment drive for its Irish operations. Already this year 120 jobs have been filled at its new business centre in Wexford.

A further 120 people will be taken on before the end of the year at the company's two European centres in Dublin.

The company - which employs 60,000 people worldwide - said it had considered a number of possible locations, but that Ireland had won out because of its participation in the euro single currency, and its highly educated and skilled workforce.

The new positions will bring to 1,100 the number of people employed by the firm in Ireland.

'The creation of 240 positions, which will be filled by the end of the year, demonstrates Zurich's commitment to growth in Ireland and reaffirms the Government's confidence in our ability to recover from recession,' commented Minister for Enterprise, Trade and Innovation Batt O'Keeffe.
