Phoenix, the North's largest gas supplier, says it has secured several large business customers in the Republic of Ireland, including a deal to supply gas to one of the largest energy users in Ireland.
Drogheda-based Premier Periclase, which produces and supplies magnesia products, is the first customer among the largest sector of industrial gas users in Ireland to switch suppliers.
Phoenix started supplying gas in the Republic in November 2009. It aimed to get a 30% market share of the largest industrial energy users within three years, but says it has already secured about 25% market share of the largest sector of industrial energy users. This has led it to revise its targets upwards to win 50% of this market within three years.
Phoenix supplies over 130,000 domestic and business customers in the greater Belfast area and is owned by private equity giants Terra Firma.
