Figures from ComReg show that An Post delivered 84% of standard mail throughout the country within one working day during 2009. This was still short of the 94% set by the regulator, though it represents an improvement from the 79% recorded in 2008.
ComReg said there had been particular improvements in the delivery of post from Dublin.
98.3% of all mail was delivered within three working days, still short of the 99.5% target set for An Post by the regulator.
ComReg said it welcomed the improved performance in 2009, but warned that An Post still faced 'a considerable challenge' in its efforts to reach its 94% target by the end of 2010.
