Ryan nominated for EBRD position

Finance Minister Brian Lenihan has nominated Eoin Ryan for the position of alternate director on the Board of the European Bank for Reconstruction and Development (EBRD).

Mr Ryan replaces Anne Counihan who has been the Irish representative on the bank's board since February 2007.

Eoin Ryan is a former Minister of State and Senator, who most recently served as a Member of the European Parliament from 2004 to 2009.

Ireland and Denmark rotate the positions of full and alternate director on the board of the bank under a constituency agreement.

Ireland is a founder member of the European Bank for Reconstruction and Development. It is based in London and was established in 1991 to help develop a new private sector in the countries of the former Soviet Bloc.
