The Dublin Chamber of Commerce claims that the recent weather and resulting traffic chaos has resulted in an €80m loss to the economy.

Yesterday the city's bus and Luas services were cancelled for some time, while rail services were diverted from the Docklands Station and Dublin airport was closed for several hours. Road conditions were also appalling for drivers.

The Dublin Chamber has urged Dublin local authorities to grit the footpaths around the main public transport hubs in the city.

'Every hour of a working day that is lost costs about €40m to the Dublin economy in terms of lost productivity,' stated Gina Quin, Dublin Chamber's chief executive.

If further losses are to be avoided, then workers must be able to access their workplace safety,' she added.
