The main European markets inched higher this evening due to positive company news, with gains limited by mixed economic data from the US.
In London the FTSE finished 0.8% higher at 5,365, with mining shares strong as metals prices rose. But the LSE fell almost 4% to 842p after reporting a drop in profits. In Paris, the CAC rose 0.7% to close at 3,809, while in Frankfurt the Dax added 0.6% to 5,803.
In Dublin, however, the ISEQ closed down 10 points (0.3%) at 2,873. AIB closed up 3% at €1.73, while insurer FBD jumped 5.4% to €6.85. Food group Greencore ended down a cent at €1.38 after reporting a drop in annual profits.
On Wall Street, the Dow Jones and the Nasdaq were both 0.2% higher at 10,449 and 2,173 respectively after a series of mostly positive economic figures ahead of the Thanksgiving Day holiday on Thursday. Earlier, Tokyo's Nikkei 225 index closed 0.4% higher at 9,442. The Hang Seng ended 0.8% higher at 22,612.
