A Dublin-based telecommunications company is creating 80 new jobs in Belfast.

InTune Networks, based in Parkwest in Dublin, is spending £10m establishing a new research and development centre in the Sandy Row area of Belfast.

The jobs creation agency in the North, Invest NI, is contributing £1m towards the project, which will focus on improving high-speed internet connectivity in cities and towns.

Meanwhile, 26 new jobs for graduates are being created in Dundalk by a Chinese company, Chemical Inspection and Regulation Service Ltd, which is setting up its European headquarters in the Co Louth town.

The company's parent is based in Hanghzou and their market is testing chemicals for businesses to ensure they comply to EU standards.

The head of CIRS Ireland, Paul Nolan, said the company had chosen Dundalk because of the high standard of graduates from the local institute of technology, strong IDA support and because a Chinese firm, SATIR, was already in operation in the town. The offices were officially opened by the Minister for Justice and Louth TD, Dermot Ahern, today.

Conrad to lose 32 jobs in restructuring

One of Dublin city's leading hotels is to cut 32 jobs as it undertakes a restructuring programme.

Staff at the five star Conrad Hotel on Earlsfort Terrace were called into an emergency meeting this morning where they were informed of the plan. It is believed the redundancies are being sought on a voluntary basis.

In a statement today, the hotel said that the hospitality business, like many other industry sectors, has been impacted by the current global economic climate.

'Unfortunately the hotel has not been immune to these challenges and has had to evaluate staffing levels in relation to business needs. As a result, we regretfully will have to make a number of roles redundant at this time,' the statement added.

It added that it will offer each of the individuals affected its full support while they look for alternative employment.
