Ireland's imports and exports both decreased in November, according to new figures released by the Central Statistics Office.

Imports fell by 2% compared to October, and exports fell by 4%, when seasonally adjusted.

On an unadjusted basis, the value of imports was down 28% when compared to November 2007, and exports down 8%.

Last year (up until November), many major exports decreased, including exports of computer equipment, organic chemicals, and fruit and vegetables.

Overall, exports were down 3%.

While exports to many countries decreased, goods sold to China increased by 21%, Malaysia by 51%, Spain by 10% and Poland by 38%.

Some of the major imports that decreased last year included computer equipment, vehicles and special machinery.

Imports overall were down 11% January to November last year.
