Kerry in talks over threatened jobs

Kerry Group has confirmed that it is in talks with seven staff members whose jobs are to be cut at its meat production facility in Glenealy, Co Wicklow.

The staff, who work in administration and finance, will be made redundant if they cannot be redeployed.

The Glenealy plant produces cooked meats, mostly for export.

A company spokesman said that competition from the UK was greater given the strength of sterling and this was having an impact on its operations.

The move to cut these jobs was in the interests of 'efficiency' and streamlining of activities, he said.
