The country's banking chiefs are to be questioned again by the Oireachtas Committee on Finance following the announcement of the Government's €400 billion bank bailout plan, according to the Committee Chairman Michael Ahern TD.
The banks had previously appeared before the committee in July when they spoke about the growing liquidity problem and other banking issues.
'Obviously there have been a lot of developments in the banking sector in this country and around the world since we last met with the banking chiefs in July,' Mr Ahern said.
'We need to discuss how the current banking situation came about and how things changed since our previous meeting. We also need to get some assurances and detailed answers from the banks on how they plan to proceed in light of the Government guarantee,' he added.
