Hibernian workers who are members of the Unite union have backed industrial action at the insurance company over its plan to transfer 580 jobs to India.
The union's national officer Jerry Shanahan said the union, which represents 1,600 staff, now had a mandate for non-cooperation with the current proposals, and for one-hour stoppages.
He said it was now up to management to start negotiations with the union, saying that if there were cost issues to be dealt with, 'creative solutions' could be found.
Hibernian said it was disappointed with the outcome, but welcomed the union's willingness to enter talks. It said it was committed to avoiding industrial action. It pointed out that just over 900 of 2,200 staff voted for action, but it would engage with Unite and all of its workers.
