A survey looking at lump sum investments reveals that the average amount invested was €44,915.
The survey, by Irish Life, also shows significant differences in the size of investments between men and women, between the various counties and the types of investment products.
The figures show that the average lump sum invested by men came to almost €52,000 while the average investment from women clients was just over €33,000 - 58% less.
The Irish Life survey also reveals that people from Co Cavan tended to invest the largest amounts. They invested an average of almost €72,000, almost 60% higher than the national average. After Cavan, the biggest investments came from Irish Life customers in Meath, Galway and Kildare.
Monaghan investors made the smallest investments of just under €27,000 - some 40% below the national average. Other counties where the average investment was lower than the national average included Mayo, Waterford and Kerry.
Dublin accounted for more than a quarter of the investments by number. The average value of an investment in Dublin was just under €48,000.
'The fact that the average investment amongst 20,000 different customers last year was as high as €45,000 highlights the transformation that's occurred in personal wealth in Ireland over the past decade,' commented Karl Symes at Irish Life.
