Cowen confirms 2008 spending plans

Finance Minister Brian Cowen has presented the revised estimates for 2008 Government spending to the Dáil.

The figures give a more detailed breakdown of spending by each department than those given on Budget day.

They show that total Government spending will rise by 8.7% to €61.9 billion this year. Day-to-day spending goes up 8.2% and capital spending rises by 11.2%.

There are few changes from the Budget figures and no extra spending, though €126m in capital savings from last year is available for spending this year.
