Enterprise Ireland to meet strategic targets

Enterprise Ireland has reported a continued strong performance by client companies during 2007. It said that all key strategic targets for the year will be met or exceeded.

In its end of year statement - published today - it says that preliminary indications are that Irish companies sustained positions in international markets that will lead to the generation of over €1 billion in new export sales by the end of the year.

However, Enterprise Ireland warned that it is seeing a more 'challenging economic environment', especially in the US and UK.

'Increased international competition in many overseas markets, moderating global growth, fluctuating exchange rates and the international credit crisis combined to make the international trading environment more more difficult,' commented Frank Ryan, Enterprise Ireland's CEO.

He said that Irish companies are very adept at pursuing new market opportunities and their tenacity has resulted in a third successive year of export gains.

During 2007, Enterprise Ireland supported 70 new  high growth potential start-ups in a range of sectors.
