Fall in German industrial production

German industrial production contracted by 0.3% in October from the previous month, mainly owing to lower output in the energy sector.

The provisional, seasonally corrected data from the German economic ministry was in line with analysts' forecasts.

Energy production fell by 3.6% on the month, the ministry said, amid slowing growth of the biggest euro zone economy.

A provisional figure for September was revised lower today and showed a monthly increase of just 0.1%.

The OECD has also revised its global forecast for German growth lower. It now expects the country’s economy to expand by 2.6% this year and by just 1.8% in 2008.
