Watchdog raps two broker firms

The Financial Regulator has reached separate settlement agreements with two financial intermediaries due to suspected breaches of regulatory rules.

The regulator reprimanded Johnston Properties and Don Harte, who traded as DGH & Associates.

Johnston is no longer authorised as a mortgage broker, while DGH is seeking to have its authorisation as a life assurance broker revoked.

The regulator said no client of either company had made a complaint to it about the suspected breaches. In the case of Johnston, these involved failure to seek enough information from clients about their financial situation and failure to disclose fees.

DGH was also suspected of failure to seek enough information from clients about their financial situation and failure to submit annual accounts.
