Paddy Power has decided to resign from the Irish Bookmakers Association (IBA) due to 'irreconcilable differences', the industry group said.
Sharon Byrne, Chair of the IBA said, 'At a time when the bookmaking sector is facing major challenges, we regret Paddy Power's decision to resign from the IBA'.
Differences on key objectives contained in the IBA's budget submission, including funding of the horse racing industry, repatriation and measures needed to bolster the future of smaller bookmakers, proved to be irreconcilable, she said.
Founded in April 2005, the IBA comprises about 750 of the 1100 betting shops in Ireland.
