Ireland attracted more foreign direct investment in life sciences than any other European country in the 12 months from July 2006 to June 2007.
Research released today by OCO Monitor, a Belfast-based company that tracks FDI, found that Ireland accounted for 25% of foreign investment in life sciences in the European market.
Our closest competitors are Switzerland and France, which both brought in 11.6%.
Mark O'Connell, CEO of OCO, has said that 17 life sciences investment projects led to the creation of 1,960 new jobs here during the period.
Mr O'Connell said: 'Globally, Ireland remains an attractive investment destination and currently is amongst the world’s largest recipients of investments.'
The research also found that 38% of all FDI projects are located in Dublin.
Cork and Clare are also strong in the area with over 30% of the country’s FDI flowing into the two Munster counties.
