The number of people in work in Germany rose to a post-unification high of 39.7 million in August, the Federal Statistics Office said this morning.
Adjusted for seasonal swings and calculated according to International Labour Organisation methodology, employment rose by 19,000 on the month, its 19th straight gain, the Office said.
The jobless rate was seen at 8.9%, the lowest since June 1993 and down from 9% in August.
