Official figures show that 15,745 new cars were licensed in July, up 5.8% on the same month last year.
The Central Statistics Office said the new car figure for the first seven months of 2007 was 154,718, up 6.5% on the same period last year.
Toyota led the way in July with 2,330 cars, followed by Ford and Volkswagen.
The number of second-hand cars licensed in July was up 16% on the same month last year, while new goods vehicles showed a jump of 20.8%.
