Investigation into Applied Energy takeover

The Competition Authority has announced that it has decided to carry out a full investigation into the proposed acquisition by Glen Electric of Applied Energy Holdings.

A preliminary investigation by the authority failed to ascertain definitively if the deal would substantially lessen competition.

Glen Electric, which is based in Northern Ireland, is a wholly-owned subsidiary of the Glen Dimplex Group.

Both companies sell electric space heating and shower products in the Republic of Ireland.

The Competition Authority has until Sunday, November 18 to make a final decision. It could, however, reach a judgment before that date.
