Ryanair has announced 13 new routes from its base at Stockholm Skavsta airport in Sweden and says it is considering a service between Shannon and Belfast.

In a meeting today with the Mayor of Clare, Ryanair CEO Michael O'Leary said the airline will investigate the reopening of daily services between Shannon and Belfast.

Councillor Flan Garvey said, on behalf of Clare County Council, that any new service to and from Shannon would be promoted by the local authority.

He said that up until Aer Lingus' decision to drop the Belfast/Shannon leg of its New York service in 2001, up to 22,000 passengers took the route each year.

In other news today Ryanair has announced 13 new routes from its base at Stockholm Skavsta airport in Sweden.

The new routes will start in October. Ryanair says it will invest $140m and add two new planes at the base.
