Gulf Air to axe Dublin route in July

Gulf Air is to scrap its services from Dublin Airport to Bahrain from July 1. The airline began flying three times a week on the route in December 2005.

Gulf Air is ending five other routes from July 1, saying this is part of a strategy to concentrate on routes to and from destinations where it can offer at least two flights a day.

Chief executive Andre Dose said the airline, which is making heavy losses, had been looking at ways its fleet could be used more effectively.

It is not yet known how many jobs will be cut in Dublin, where the company employs nine people. 'The exact number of jobs that will be cut as a result of the downsizing and restructuring of the company still has to be defined. A portion of the downsizing of the workforce will occur through natural attrition,' it said.
