Air Berlin profits took off last year

Air Berlin, Germany's number two airline, has said it flew back into the black last year and managed to run up its highest profit.

The airline reported net profits of just over €50m in 2006 compared with a loss of €115.9m a year earlier.

Underlying earnings also improved, with Air Berlin landing operating profit of €64.1m last year, compared with a 2005 loss of €5.5m. Revenues rose by 28.6% to €1.57 billion. Air Berlin did not publish any forecast for the current year.
