IPSO issues consumer information notice

The Irish Payment Services Organisation has issued a statement urging all Chip and PIN cardholders that they will need to know and use their PIN when paying for goods and services from March 17 onwards.

Most cardholders have been using their PIN for some time but for those who have yet to start using their PIN, IPSO has recommended contacting their bank to get details of their PIN in advance of the changeover to Chip and PIN card usage next month.

Úna Dillon, head of card services at IPSO, said certain consumers - those with cards that have yet to be upgraded to Chip and PIN, cards from overseas and Chip and Signature cards for disabled cardholders - will still be able to use their cards in the traditional manner, using their signature, after the March 17 deadline.
