The UK's largest savings provider has launched a campaign to find the rightful owners of £44m of 'forgotten' money held in old and unused accounts.
Halifax said that it will try to reunite its customers with cash held in around 110,000 dormant accounts across the UK. Accounts are classed as dormant if there has been no customer activity on them for at least 15 years.
Halifax said it expects that the British Government will launch a new scheme to use unclaimed cash to fund a number of good causes within the next few years.
