European ministers in charge of competitiveness are meeting today in Brussels to discuss the European Commission's proposals to cut red tape in the EU.
The European Commission has proposed a cut of 25% of administrative burdens by 2012, and has also pledged to reduce unnecessary administrative burdens on business, especially in company law, employment relations, taxation, statistics, agriculture and transport. The measures could save European businesses up to €1.3 billion annually.
Delegates at today's meeting will also discuss the future of Europe's car industry. The Commission wants to keep the manufacturing of motorcars viable on a long term basis, at prices affordable to consumers.
