Larry Goodman's Irish Food Processors (IFP) is to invest an undisclosed amount in a biodiesel facility, which it says will be the largest of its kind in Europe.
The company says the facility will be capable of converting animal fat into 110m litres of biodiesel annually.
IFP says site locations have been selected in Ireland and the UK and the final decision will depend on 'regulatory certainty, access to indigenous raw materials, and route to market for finished product'.
IFP is the parent company of Anglo Irish Beef Processors in Ireland where it has a 25% market share. In the UK IFP is the parent of Anglo Beef processors with a 15% market share of the industry.
The company, which has a turover of over €1.2 billion, has 22 facilities in Ireland and the UK and also operates a big frozen foods division.
