The Minister for Finance, Brian Cowen, today granted An Post National Lottery Company a two year extension to operate the lottery until the start of 2011.
The current licence is due to expire at the end of 2008.
In recent months, the company sought an extension of the licence, which is permitted under the licence conditions.
The Department of Finance said it will put arrangements in place for the award of a successor licence to take effect from the beginning of 2011
