O'Briens makes first Spanish move

Sandwich chain O'Briens opens its first Spanish store in Puerto Banus in the Marbella region today.

The move is the first of a three store deal with English entrepreneur David Surgenor. The second and third stores are expected to be opened by end of 2005.

O'Briens says the Puerto Banus store is situated in a key location, in the heart of the tourist resort area.

O'Briens is looking to expand the Spanish business through acquiring additional franchise partners for mainland Spain and the holiday resort islands.

'We are looking at regions in Europe which will readily embrace the O'Briens concept, and holiday destinations pose a real expansion opportunity,' said Brody Sweeney, CEO and founder of O'Briens Irish Sandwich Bars.

O'Briens has 260 outlets in Ireland, UK, the US, Australia and Asia.
