eTel picks up second Austrian telecoms firm

The eTel Group, which was established by Irish businessman Sean Melly, has acquired Millennium Communication, a provider of corporate Internet and voice telephony in Vienna, Austria.

It is understood that the price paid for the Austrian company, which was having trading difficulties, was about £1m. Following the £3m purchase of RSL COM Austria, it is eTel's second Austrian acquisition in the last five months.

eTel's CEO Sean Melly said: 'This transaction clearly establishes eTel not only as a leading provider of telecom services in Austria but also as the leading consolidator telecom assets across the region where we are continuing to explore a number of interesting opportunities.'

eTel said the deal would add a further 3,500 corporate customers and 17,000 home customers to its customer base and is expected to give the company annualised Austrian revenues in the region of 75m euros.

The purchase of RSL COM Austria earlier gave eTel about 15,000 corporate customers and 70,000 home users.

eTel was formed in July 1999 and to date the company has established operations in Austria, the Czech Republic, Hungary, Poland, and Slovakia.
