The British Horseracing Board today rejected a revised offer from Go Racing on UK horse racing media rights, killing the near £400 million 10-year deal.
Arena Leisure, head of the Go Racing consortium including satellite broadcaster BSkyB and Channel Four, said it failed to agree terms on access to the British Horseracing Board's crucial pre-race data.
The collapse of the proposed 10 year television deal, which had appeared a done deal only last night, follows more than 18 months of talks among media groups and racing bodies.
BHB Chairman Peter Savill has objected to the length of the deal, calling for a five year data licence agreement rather than ten. He also criticised a lack of valuation in the plan for the potentially lucrative new media betting rights, including mobile phones.
The rejection means an £85 million fundraising due for approval by Arena shareholders later today would not go ahead.
Cumulative annual horse racing audiences in Britain reach 400 million annually.
