An Taisce publishes major survey of medieval Galway
Jim Fahy reports on the most comprehensive survey of medieval Galway ever undertaken. A team of young archaeologists and photographers led by Jim Higgins studied and recorded every building in the city.
Speaking to RTÉ News, Emer Colleran, who organised the survey as Environmental Officer of Galway Taisce, says its first purpose was to show how much of the old city remains. Galway dates back to the 12th century, and the survey should allow a sensitive and informed development of what should be conserved and what should not. The An Taisce survey report was in the process of being bound and put into book form.
