The RTÉ Singers, with conductor Proinnsías Ó Duinn perform on Oileán Chléire (Cape Clear), a Gaeltacht island off the coast of West Cork.
Recently visited by President Cearbhall Ó Dálaigh Oileán Chléire is an island of strong traditions. The latest visit by the RTÉ Singers was organised by the island’s cooperative Comharchumann Chléire Teo.
On their final date of a tour of the South West of Ireland, the ten member choir performed a varied programme of works from the 16th century to the present.
Hans Waldemar Rosen founded the Radió Éireann (later the RTÉ) Singers, in 1953 and Ó Duinn served as conductor from 1974-78. The group was disbanded in 1984.
