Ireland hooker Rónan Kelleherhas been called into the British and Irish Lions squad to provide further cover at hooker.

The 23-year-old, who scored four tries against USA Eagles last weekend, will fly to Cape Town with Alun Wyn Jones, who has recovered from a dislocated shoulder to rejoin the touring party.

Head coach Warren Gatland said that while there were no injury concerns regarding Ken Owens, Jamie George and Luke Cowan-Dickie, the addition of a fourth hooker is a precautionary measure.

"I'm delighted to announce Ronan will join up with the squad," he said. "There’s no injuries to the three hookers out here, but we think it’s prudent to bring in cover in that position ahead of the Test series."

The Leinster man trained with the Lions squad in Jersey prior to departure for South Africa.
