STATE OF PLAY

Leinster are first up on Saturday afternoon when they welcome Northampton, beaten at home by Bordeaux last weekend.

After the defeat, Saints coach Chris Boyd said that he would be resting some of his top players for the trip to Dublin, an admission that angered former Ireland and Munster captain Donal Lenihan

Leo Cullen's side were good value for their 35-14 bonus-point win away to a disinterested Montpellier last Saturday and will fully expect another five point haul to solidify their Pool A lead.

Leinster: Jimmy O'Brien, Hugo Keenan, Garry Ringrose, Robbie Henshaw, Dave Kearney; Harry Byrne, Jamison Gibson-Park: Cian Healy, Rónan Kelleher, Andrew Porter, Ryan Baird, James Ryan, Rhys Ruddock (captain), Josh van der Flier, Caelan Doris.

Replacements: James Tracy, Peter Dooley, Michael Bent, Ross Molony, Josh Murphy, Luke McGrath, Ross Byrne, Dan Leavy.

Dan McFarland's side, shorn of a number of Ireland internationals, almost accounted for Toulouse last time out but the genius of wing Cheslin Kolbe was to prove the difference in a 29-22 victory for the French outfit

Ulster's hopes of progression lie in victory on Saturday against a Cherries side that were hammered 55-10 last weekend at Lyon.

Ulster: Michael Lowry, Matt Faddes, James Hume, Stuart McCloskey, Jacob Stockdale; Billy Burns (captain), John Cooney; Eric O'Sullivan, Rob Herring, Marty Moore, Alan O'Connor, David O’Connor, Sean Reidy, Jordi Murphy, Nick Timoney.

Replacements: John Andrew, Kyle McCall, Tom O'Toole, Matty Rea, Greg Jones, Alby Mathewson, Ian Madigan, Ethan McIlroy.

Munster dug out a 21-7 victory over an ill-disciplined Harlequins outfit last Sunday but were the only Pool B winners to miss out on a bonus point, which may come back to haunt them later in the pool stages.

Clermont went to Bristol and won on a barely believable scoreline of 51-38, scoring seven tries in the process. A statement of intent if ever there was one.

Munster: Mike Haley; Keith Earls, Chris Farrell, Damian de Allende, Shane Daly; JJ Hanrahan, Conor Murray; Josh Wycherley, Rhys Marshall, Stephen Archer; Jean Kleyn, Tadhg Beirne; Gavin Coombes, Peter O'Mahony (c), CJ Stander.

Replacements: Kevin O'Byrne, Liam O’Connor, John Ryan, Fineen Wycherley, Billy Holland, Craig Casey, Rory Scannell, Jack O’Donoghue.

Connacht almost pulled of the impossible last week and went down fighting in a 26-22 defeat to Racing 92 in Paris.

A bonus point is not to be sniffed at and the performance will give them a confidence boost as former coach Pat Lam and ex-captain John Muldoon, now the forwards coach with the Bears, arrive in Galway. A home defeat last weekend to Clermont means this is a must-win game for both sides.

Connacht: John Porch; Alex Wootton, Sammy Arnold, Bundee Aki, Matt Healy; Jack Carty, Kieran Marmion; Denis Buckley, Dave Heffernan, Finlay Bealham; Eoghan Masterson Ultan Dillane; Sean Masterson, Conor Oliver, Paul Boyle (C).

Replacements: Shane Delahunt, Jordan Duggan , Jack Aungier, Cian Prendergast, Jarrad Butler, Caolin Blade, Tom Daly, Tiernan O'Halloran.
