Man of the match Beauden Barrett says "intent" was key to their 46-14 World Cup quarter-final win over Ireland.
The champions burst out of the blocks and were 22-0 up after 32 minutes through Barrett's 35th international try.
Ireland simply had no answer to the power and pace of the holders but also made too many basic errors to compete.
"It was great fun, mate," said Barrett, who lived in Ireland for a year when he was eight.
"Whenever you play the Irish you know they've got a tremendous fan base, it’s always a super special atmosphere.
"We just wanted to play well, we just wanted to bring that intent. It’s do-or-die footy.
"We knew the reality was we could have been going home if we didn’t bring it tonight."
The 28-year-old, whose brothers Scott and Jordie came on as replacements, dedicated the win to his grandfather, who passed away during the week.
"It's been an emotional week for my family," he said. "All we wanted to do was play well for him tonight so thinking of you up there, love you, Grandad Ted."
New Zealand saw their final pool match cancelled because of Typhoon Hagibis.
Steven Hansen, though, was happy with the way his players responded on their return to action.
"We have worked really hard on our fitness. We pride ourselves on working hard," he said on ITV1.
"You could probably tell in the last 10-15 minutes that we missed that game."
