Roscommon have extended Anthony Cunningham's tenure as senior football manager until the end of the 2022 season.

The two-time All-Ireland winner, who has led his native Galway to two All-Ireland hurling finals, and Athlone clubs St Brigid's and Garrycastle to provincial football glory, had been appointed in November 2018 on a two-year term with the option of a third.

He led the Rossies to their 24th Connacht title and the Super 8s in his first campaign in charge despite relegation from Division 1 of the Allianz Football League.

Roscommon were promoted back to Division 1 this year but were knocked out by Mayo in the Connacht semi-final, their only championship game in 2020.

A statement from Roscommon said: "At an online meeting of Roscommon GAA County Board tonight it was agreed to reappoint Anthony Cunningham for an additional two-year term to the end of 2022 as the manager of the Roscommon Senior Football Team."
