Damien Duff believes that England will hang around for a long time at Euro 2016, even if it pains him to say it.

England usually travel to a major tournament on a wave of hype and optimism, only to fall flat.

This time around, however, their build-up is a little more low key and a reasonably kind group draw gives them a great shot of making the knock-out stages.

RTÉ soccer analyst Duff knows their boss Roy Hodgson having worked under him as a player with Blackburn Rovers and Fulham and believes he can guide them deep into the competition.

When asked who were his dark horses for the tournament, he answered: “It pains me to say it, but probably England.

“I have worked closely with Roy Hodgson a few times in my career - I love him and I know what a good coach he is.

“Watching some of their players this year, the likes of Harry Kane - an old school centre forward who is a top, top player. We might have been worried about him having a tough second season, but he’s banged in another 30 goals this season. They’d be my dark horses.”

England are in Group B alongside Russia, Slovakia and Wales and will kick off their schedule with a clash with a match against the Russians on 11 June.
