Sadlier: Forde's omission 'particularly harsh'

Richie Sadlier has labelled the omission of Millwall goalkeeper David Forde from Martin O'Neill's Republic of Ireland squad for Euro 2016 as "particularly harsh".

Forde began the campaign between the sticks but was supplanted by Shay Given and Darren Randolph, and Sadlier acknowledged that O'Neill's decision to replace him in his 23-man panel with in-form Sheffield Wednesday stopper Keiren Westwood was "understandable" given his recent lack of football.

Sadlier and fellow RTÉ panellist Stephen Hunt also discussed the other players to miss out on the trip to France, including the claims of Darren Gibson and David McGoldrick.

"Darron Gibson came with a late run and performance tonight [against Belarus]," Hunt said, "David McGoldrick is a player I know the manager likes but maybe he hasn't played enough football."
