Rhasidat Adeleke broke the Irish 60m indoor record at the NCAA Indoor Championships in Alabama on Friday night.
The Tallaght AC sprinter set a personal best time of 7.17 seconds in her heat, beating the previous 7.19 mark recorded by Molly Scott in late February when she won the Irish Life Health National Senior Indoor Championships.
Adeleke - who won double gold last summer for Ireland when she took the European Under-20 100m and 200m titles in Tallinn, Estonia - had a previous PB of 7.21 over the 60m indoor distance.
The 19-year-old is currently on a scholarship at the University of Texas and is set to become the first Irish athlete to compete in an NCAA Division 1 indoor sprint final.
The Irish 60m indoor record had stood at 7.27 seconds at the start of this year before Adeleke and Scott lowered the mark.
