Man in serious condition after rescue from sea

A man is in a serious condition in hospital after getting into difficulty while swimming in the water off Bundoran, Co Donegal.

The Irish Coast Guard was alerted that a person had got into difficulty in the water off Bundoran Beach at around 5.20pm yesterday.

Marine Rescue Sub Centre Malin Head tasked the Bundoran RNLI lifeboat to the scene.

The man had got into difficulty in the water near the diving boards area of the beach and it's understood that the lifeguards on duty at the time also came to his assistance.

The man was recovered from the water by the RNLI.

He was subsequently taken by ambulance to Sligo University Hospital, where he remains in a serious condition.
